We yearn to shed the heaviness that we welcomed in the winter months. We’re ready to burst forward.

We have you covered with these 8 easy tips to spring clean your body.

The way we move, breathe, eat can all help us embrace the transition into Spring. The combination of healthy, fresh, balanced eating and yoga will help to renew your energy, shed layers, plant seeds of healthy living for you to flourish the rest of the year!

8 Tips to Spring Clean Your Body

Nutrition-Style

  • Focus on Fresh! You’re probably finding yourself growing tired of the heavier winter foods and notice your body desiring the lighter, fresher produce! Welcome it! Don’t ignore what your body is intuitively telling you. Mother Nature is right there with you as each month of spring welcomes more and more in-season produce. Come June the list will be booming!

  • Be Experimental! With the bountiful fruits and veggies that Springs brings us, step outside your comfort zone of the same ole fruits and veggies. If you’re eating the same fruits and veggies every day, every week, that means your body is getting the same nutrients. Adding in new fruits and veggies will get you MORE & NEW nutrients.
  • Spring Cooking! Having fresh is wonderful but changing up the preparation method can elicit different taste and create nice variety so you don’t get bored! For the spring season, prepare veggies in a way that doesn’t thoroughly cook the inner part.

Sautéing: Sauté veggies at a high temperature for shorter time.

Steaming/Simmering: lightly steam, leaving veggies with a little crunch.

  • Get Fresh with Salads! BUT don’t stop at veggies alone! Make sure you get protein and fat. We don’t want you feeling hungry an hour after eating AND we don’t want the fat-soluble vitamins from your nutritious veggies going to waste. Find your balance with all the macros!

For fresh sweet flavor in your salads, try young sprouts of beets, carrots and sweet starchy veggies.

  • For Cooking or Fresh Salad… spice things up with Herbs!
    • Chives
    • Basil
    • Dill
    • Mint
    • Marjoram
    • Rosemary
    • Cilantro
    • Lemongrass
    • Tarragon
    • Parsley

Life-Style

  • Plant Seeds (a.k.a. start new habits) This is a great time of year to plant seeds of healthy living! What do you want to plant and cultivate this spring?!?

Take a moment and really consider the healthy living seeds you want to plant. Make sure they’re specific and a little more focused than say ‘losing 10 lbs’. It’s the ‘how’ I’m most curious about. What obstacles are standing in your way?! This is where the ‘how’ will come from and the seeds we want to consider planting.

  • Perfect Time of Year to Plant Seeds to Embrace a Morning Ritual
    1. Waking up earlier starting your day with the rising sun.
    2. Begin a morning practice giving your body a boost and clear out those cobwebs from the winter.

Body-Style

As the seasons change, shifting the focus of your yoga practice to match the season can help align body and mind. Your body may already be telling you what it needs from your practice! Are you desiring a more vigorous, yang style?! Like spring, a more vigorous, vinyasa style yoga practice helps warm and awaken the senses. BUT always remember to strive for B A L A N C E! Make time for the yin portion of your practice.
